Lifting Learners to the Next Level!
I am a capable, competent tutor with a successful track record spanning multiple clients. I have the most experience tutoring mathematics, but am also well-versed in chemistry and Spanish. I tutor mostly high-schoolers, but have also tutored students in middle school. My schedule is very flexible, and I am available immediately.
Some important things to know:
Even smart students may need tutoring.
Mathematics involves constantly thinking about information, values, and relationships in new ways, and we often need complex ideas like these explained to us in language we can understand. Similarly, chemistry and Spanish also involve complex new ways of thinking. Unfortunately, teachers often don't have the time or resources to ensure that each student fully understands what's being taught. Tutoring can fill in that gap, and ensure that a student has every opportunity to succeed.
Tutoring works best if it occurs regularly.
While meeting only before tests may strengthen those test scores somewhat, I've found that my role tends to become one of damage control, trying to quickly impart as many ideas as possible to the student in what little time I have. Regular meetings ensure that constant progress is made, and can help students develop a studying routine. When I meet regularly with students, each concept can be explained individually, and a solid foundation can be built. This foundation not only allows them to excel at higher level courses, but also opens them up to more complex thought in other areas of life. Furthermore, once the student understands all the current concepts, we can even go over ideas that have not yet been taught in class. The greatest moment in tutoring is when my students are able to start helping others in class!
